Hi Everyone!

I'm wondering if you all have any good ideas regarding Valentines gifts. My husband is one of those guys that doesnt "need" anything because he just runs out and buys whatever whim he might have. That kind of makes it hard for me and I have no idea what to do for him. This probably sounds hokey, but I want it to be something "heartwarming"...lol! He is getting me a new wedding band that's really beautiful and all I can think of are boxers with hearts!!!! See, I need HELP!

Thanks for any ideas you might have!

If you live near the sea send him off for a day of snorkling.

Otherwise, here's what I have done:

Organise a picnic basket from a local funky cafe. In the morning give him a card that basically lays out the day for him. Put in some things that you know he likes to do that maybe you wouldn't normally do (ie a bushwalk, golfing, etc) Go pick up the basket together and find a great spot to picnic. Then go do the bushwalk or golfing or whatever and finally tack a movie on at the end of the day.

You will both have a relaxing lovey dovey day and he will love it.

My husband's favorite gifts from me: a basket of all things that were important to him: Giants sweatshirt, CD of favorite opera, new book from favorite author, homemade choc chip cookies, butterscotch, a vintage bottle of wine, a new framed pic of his kids & grandchildren, two tickets to a Knicks game, a balloon attached
that said "These are some of your favorite things" with musical notes (from the movie Sound of Music)

The year before last I asked him eo leave the house and not come back until 6:00 PM. He had to come through the front door. I had all the lights out and a path made by votive candles right to the bedroom. Along the path were Valentine cards for him to open. At the end of the path was me (in red nightgown, a bottle of champaign, strawberries. After the appetizers I showed him the living room. I had moved the furniture and set up a small table in front of the fireplace with full length red cloth - my best china and crystal and flowers. I lit the fire. On his plate I had a small hearty filled with butterscotch truffles (his favorite). I then served him a very special dinner (I forgot the appetizer, but the entree was rack of Lamb with small roasted new potatoes and sauteed french green beans. I had a CD playing songs. For dessert I made him a cheesecake in the shape of a heart. Cheesecake is his favorite with choc coverd strawberries. I got him a very special vintage red wine that was perfect for Lamb.

He said that was the most perfect Valentine's Day he had ever had. He got to do whatever he wanted during the day then had a wonderful surprise in the evening.

If you have kids I suggest you have them stay at someone's house that night.

Good luck and have a wonderful evening!

I always put so much thought into my gifts and usually my hubby is just like thanks in a whatever kind of voice but last year he actually got teary eyed. He had mentioned wanting a nice black and white wedding picture of us to hang up. Luckily a few years back our photographer had tracked us down about 900 miles away and offered to sell us our negatives for $50 since he was retiring (I had not liked his I keep them for 30 days and destroy them policy and he must have remembered since he still had them 10+ years later). Anyways I picked out a negative and had it blown up in Black and White and then bought an real nice frame, kind of antique silvery looking to put it in. It looked awesome. We aren't really that close these days but he got all choked up when I gave it to him. Good Luck!! And this is a great topic to have started. I can't wait to hear everyones ideas.

Tell us a little more about your DH. How old is he and does he have any hobbies?

One gift my husband really liked was a poster of a Cirque Du Soleil show that he had seen on his 40th birthday in Las Vegas. We didn't buy one at the time and he regretted not picking up that poster. Well, of course they stopped selling it. I tracked it down on e-Bay and had it framed. He was really surprised I found it and had it framed so nicely.

As far as getting a "regular" gift, my DH really likes watches. You could have something engraved on the back.

I agree that if he buys what he wants/needs, give him the gift of something else--time with you with a date planned--out, or at home, or tickets to an event/concert, or time for himself for a hobby (golf or whatever). My husband appreciates those kinds of things.

One Valentine's Day, I slipped into my DH's office while he was at lunch, and left a pot of chrysanthemums with a heart-shaped "I Love You" helium balloon and a card on his desk. He said it was a nice surprise.
I'd just wanted him to know I was thinking of him during the day; it was harder to go out at night back then, since we had small children, and couldn't afford a sitter AND dinner out very often. [img]graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

ME is his gift with no kids around...LOL

Usually I buy something I don't usually wear to bed. We always go out for dinner.

My husband sees Valentines as a time to romance ME. Valentines to him is a guy thing to impress his lady.

The most touching and special gift I got from him was something he did himself. He sat down at work and wrote the 10 top reason why he loves me. I keep. I keep that letter tucked in my Bible under 1 Corinthians 13.

A love note from the heart is about the most romantic gift I can think of. Try doing that.
